Actiontec's Coax Network Adapter uses the existing coax wiring in a home or office to create a fast Ethernet network. Designed specifically for homes with cable TV, this adapter can handle consistent speeds up to 270Mbps, perfect for networking and connecting your home theater to the Internet. Connect any device that has an Ethernet or LAN port, including Blu-ray, Xbox 360, PS3, TiVo, computers and more. The adapter eliminates the need for rewiring or settling for less consistent wireless solutions. The ECB2500C does not support homes with satellite TV.
The MoCA Network Adapter is a high-speed bridge that takes your coaxial network and, in conjunction with a router, delivers Ethernet networking access anywhere you have a coaxial port. Most of the leading broadband companies rely on coaxial networks in the home (network over a cable connection) because it is very fast and extremely reliable. Actiontec's ECB2500C MoCA adapter uses the latest technology to provide you with flawless performance for your most demanding connected devices at an aggressive price point.
Note: This is a single adapter solution for Verizon FiOS users and users who already have one MoCA adapter installed. Most users will need the ECB2500C MoCA Adapter Kit which includes two adapters.*
The ECB2500C MoCA adapter delivers a strong and stable connection (up to 270Mbps**) that will allow you to experience silky-smooth streaming HD video without the lags and buffering associated with lower performance connections. The product supports QOS to manage your bandwidth, ensuring critical applications like video streaming get allocated the priority bandwidth.
The ECB2500C MoCA adapter is hardware encrypted to protect your privacy. Users can also set up a password for restricted access.
The ECB2500C MoCA adapter plugs into your current cable TV (coaxial) connections, giving you flexibility in where to connect, and eliminating the need for long cable pulls. It supports any Ethernet network-connected device, including cable boxes, Verizon FiOS, DVRs, Blu-ray players, DVD players, PlayStation PS3s, Xbox 360s, TiVos, PCs and more. (Satellite boxes are not supported.)
To set up the ECB2500C, just follow the four simple steps below:
STEP 1: Plug an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port of the adapter, and into an Ethernet port of the device to be connected to the network. STEP 2: Plug a coaxial cable into the coax "in" port of the adapter, and into the coax wall port nearest to the device to be connected to the network. STEP 3: Plug the power cable into the Power port on the back of the adapter, and into an electrical wall socket. STEP 4: Make sure the coax and Ethernet lights on the adapter are both illuminated solid green.

* This single adapter SKU is a solution for:
1) Verizon FiOS users, who already have MoCA built-in on their BHR router. In order to connect a device to the router, they would only need one ECB2500C adapter. The user should not connect anything to the TV-Out Coaxial connector on the adapter.
2) Users who already have at least one MoCA adapter installed.
** Actual data rates for all networking products are affected by a number of factors, including the load on the network and distance from the source connection. Optimum speeds may not be realized.

I purchased this version, instead of the 2200V, because this version has the splitter internal to the device. I figured that would mean I didn't need a bulky splitter and the device would handle signal amplification if it was needed. When I hooked up this device in accordance with the instructions I found that the Video On Demand and Multi-Room DVR functionality was no longer working. I decided to reset the cable box to see if it needed to come on-line with the MOCA device on-line in order to configure itself. This resulted in the cable box having no channel guide information. I then shut everything off and used an external splitter. When I used a splitter and kept this MOCA device out of line with the cable box everything started working again. Conclusion: This device does provide a fast Ethernet connection like it says... All of these devices are fine if you are only accessing the internet, but I have a large server with multi terrabytes of media that I like to stream through the house. I have a gigabit connection to every computer in the house, but I just couldn't get an ethernet cable downstairs to the TV, that was my issue. As I said, with previous ethernet over powerline devices I was getting 2.5-3MB/s max through the devices. I was really needing more. So I gave this ethernet over coax a try because I have about 3 coax connections in each room, they are everywhere. I was not expecting much, but I was quite impressed. I ran many tests over the network to and from the server and I was getting a steady 9-10MB/s and it would peak up to 11.8MB/s, which is right at the ceiling of Fast ethernet which is what they chose to put on these... If you need fast stable ethernet connections, and you can't run wired ethernet Cat6e, and you have access to coax, then these are "must have" network enabling devices for Home TV/Media setups! Netflix/Hulu Plus streaming is fast on my devices, and transferring shows on my two Tivo Premieres is as fast as standard wired ethernet (given the bottleneck is reduced down to the Tivo's themselves, and not the wiring). I speedtested and compared the bandwidth on my laptop between the best areas of wifi in my house and this directly connected to the MOCA adapter on the other end. With WiFi "N" I am getting 15Mbps Down /... Read more |
