This review is from: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 OC 2GB GDDR5 PCI-Express 3.0 DVI-I/DVI-D/HDMI/Displayport SLI Ready Graphics Card GV-N660OC-2GD (Personal Computers) The Gigabyte GTX 660 OC was a nice upgrade for my system and really fit the performance level I need at a pretty good price point. I was actually surprised at how much of an upgrade this was over my old GTX 295. The GTX 295 was a top of the line "SLI on a single card" solution in early 2009 but it pales next to this little GTX 660. At 1650x1080 in Guild Wars 2 (and using the auto detect routine in the game) I was only getting around 22-23 fps with the GTX 295. That was with many of the graphics quality settings in the moderate/medium category. With the GTX 660 OC the autodetect routine in GW2 bumps up virtually all of the settings (textures, visual range, etc.) to their highest values and I'm getting around 50 fps. That a pretty nice bump for moving from a 3 year old "top of the line" card to a current "mid grade" card. It's also going to lower my power bill as the old GTX 295 had a TDP of 289W. The GTX 660 has a TDP of 140W. I could actually add a second one to my system... The graphics card I was looking for needed to be very high-end to warrant replacing my awesome little HD 7750. A particular tool I found to be helpful was anandtech(dot)com/bench/GPU12/372. It compares GPUs results in MANY tests they performed. They also post SLI/CrossFire results for some cards. The GTX 660 and the GTX 660Ti performed very similarly, definitely not enough to warrant another $70. The 660 also has INSANE SLI scaling. Two 660s in SLI perform better than one 680 that costs about $40 more in the end. The GTX 670 is possibly the worst video card from Nvidia. It is VERY comparable to an overclocked 660Ti with a non-reference cooler, but it costs $100 more. A GTX 650 is too low-end for my needs and doesn't even beat my 7750. I knew I had to get the 660. Oh yeah, I was... Read more |
